Last month I had the opportunity to go to Ohio for the first time to visit an internet friend that I made in 2020.
Sophia and I became friends in May 2020 when she reached out to me through Instagram asking if I was looking for a pen pal. I'd completely forgotten that, a few years earlier, I posted on a penpal website looking for someone to write snail mail to. I made it while I was living in Japan and, since I hadn't gotten any responses, I completely forgot about the account and thus never deleted it. Luckily, I included my Instagram on my profile and that's how Sophia got in contact with me! The timing was incredible, as I ended deleting my Instagram a few months ago.
We started talking a bit about our interests and became fast friends. Meeting up this summer was a big goal of ours but it didn't look like it was in the cards for Sophia to come to New York at the time, so I decided that I should go visit Ohio!~
I had no idea what to expect since I haven't really been to that part of the US before, but it was so much better than I ever could have imagined! We had a lot of fun together. We baked cakes, watched New Girl on Netflix, ate Hibachi, went on walks around her neighborhood and rode bikes. We even ended up finding an abandoned kitten! That kitten ended up becoming part of Sophia's family and her name is now Panini.
I only spent about a week with Sophia but I never wanted my time there to end. Ohio has such a different vibe than where I live in New York and I found myself really appreciating little things like the nature and just spending time with her and her family.
I hope you enjoy my photos!
We tried making those viral Korean lunchbox cakes and let me tell you: it was 1000 times harder than a normal cake. I am so proud of the Miffy cake I made but it was a labor of love I'm not likely to repeat, haha!
Panini! Apparently the local vet said that summer was "cat dumping season" which made Soph and I pretty sad. Luckily they were able to give Panini a good home.
I got to see Cows up close and personal! I have never seen this many cows in my life, and the smell was... unbelievable. As cute as cows are, I don't think I could ever stomach having a farm of my own, way too stinky!
Sophia and I went to Jo Anns and picked out some dishes we could paint together. I made this Miffy plate that I'm super proud of! I ended up painting another Miffy plate (you can see it peeking out at the top of the picture) but I liked this one more.
Sophia and I went to Cedar Point! It was a really hot and tiring day, but the rides were a lot of fun. If I were to ever go again, I'd get the fastpass in a heartbeat.
We roasted marshmallows and I got this amazing shot of the sky! This was one of my last nights in Ohio and it just felt so peaceful and calm. I wish I could see a view like this everyday.
I feel so grateful Sophia and I could meet. I feel like our friendship grew so much deeper spending a week together, and I'm happy to announce she will be visiting NY in August and staying with me! I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful friend, and can't wait to see her again.
Until next time! :)
